Fully-funded PhD and Post-Doc positions (already filled)

Applicants are invited to apply for two Ph.D. candidate or Post-Doc positions, in the Human-Centered Ubiquitous Media group (LMU Munich), that will be supervised by Prof. Albrecht Schmidt, Dr. Lewis Chuang, and Dr. Tonja Machulla. The positions are fully-funded according to the German public service payscale (TV-L 13, 100%).

The interdisciplinary Human-Centered Ubiquitous Media group consists of an international team of computer scientists, engineers, neuroscientists, and psychologists. It is dedicated to developing wearable and ubiquitous technologies that mitigate human errors, augment user performance and well-being, and amplifies human cognition. Past projects include context-aware applications, AR for manual assembly tasks, physiological evaluations of human-machine interactions, and more.

LMU Munich is consistently ranked #1 among German universities and #32 world-wide by Times Higher Education (in 2018). The Institute for Informatics has a strong focus on human-computer interaction with three professors and approximately 40 research scientists in media informatics.

Your tasks

Successful candidates will also have access to state-of-the art research facilities, including a motion tracking lab, driving simulators, a treadmill setup for unrestrained walking and cycling, as well as EEG, eye tracking, and psychophysics laboratories.

Your profile

We seek applicants with a Master’s degree in computer science, (electrical/bio-medical) engineering, cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology, or related fields. Successful candidates are expected to have programming proficiency (i.e., C#, C/C++, Java, Python) in at least one of the following topics: VR/AR development, machine learning, or computer vision—or, are capable of acquiring this in the first six months of their PhD. Additionally, candidates should be willing to perform experiments on human participants. Proficiency in English is a prerequisite, proficiency in German desired, but not required.
